Moelwyn View Cottage - Holiday Let Details

Moelwyn View Cottage was built in the 1860's when the slate quarries in Ffestiniog and the surrounding area were once a thriving industry. It was  originally used to house local quarrymen and their families. By the 1890's the Industry in North West Wales employed approximately 17,000 workers and was the largest producer of slate in the world. The slate industry left an indelible mark on the landscape and in 2021 was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status and is now the 4th UNESCO World Heritage Site in Wales.

In 2018/19 Moelwyn View Cottage underwent an extensive programme of renovation and modernisation by the current owner.  All  original period features have been retained, such as the stone inglenook fireplace, slate flooring and beamed ceiling. The slate flooring originally came from the Manod Quarry. The same quarry used to store paintings from the National Portrait Gallery during World War II in order to protect them from bomb damage during the Blitz. The owner has added a feature fireplace in the front reception room which is an original 1860's Victorian parlour fireplace. This is a feature only and non-working.

The cottage benefits from 2 reception rooms with a small dining room at the front facing the Manod Hills. There is plenty of tourist information on display and it is a great place to sit, have breakfast and plan your day. The sitting room is cosy with a large log burning stove. A starter pack of wood is provided. There is a large smart TV and DVD player with plenty of books, games and DVD’s. The cottage has WiFi and good mobile phone signal.

The kitchen is a real gem. An 18 foot long extension on the back of the original house,  which is both light and airy with a direct view to the Moelwyn Mountains and Stwlan Dam. The sun sets this side of the cottage so it is a great place to either sit in or outside and enjoy the view. There is a radio in the kitchen for use if required and a Tassimo coffee machine. The kitchen has a under counter integrated fridge with a small freezer compartment. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer, microwave and electric cooker with induction hob (instructions provided).

There are two bedrooms, comprising of a double and single. As they are located at the front of the property both benefit from great views to the Manod Hills.  Bedding and towels provided. The bathroom is generous in size and has been updated while retaining the period feel of the property with a  freestanding roll-top bath and separate shower. In the garden there is a further seating out area. A garden gate at the back leads to a narrow access road which is handy for bringing bikes onto the property. There is an outside tap and bike cleaning equipment. Although there is a small storage shed this is generally in use by the owner,  however if bike storage is required then this could be accommodated or bikes can be left overnight in the kitchen.

Parking is 'onstreet' at the front of the property. This should generally be available but if not there is a local car park which is 2 minute walk away. The owner has left a parking map so you have options!

One well behaved dog is welcome and two by arrangement with the owner. There is a stair gate as pets are not allowed upstairs. Owners to bring their own pet bedding/towels etc. The rear garden is secure. Smoking is not permitted.
